Start from the functional interfaces

Bearing seats, shaft alignment, sealing faces and assembly datums should drive the tolerance plan. Avoid applying the same tight tolerance to every feature because it increases inspection effort and process cost without improving function.

Build a measurable datum strategy

Use clear primary, secondary and tertiary datums that match the assembly and inspection setup. Review thin walls, interrupted cuts and post-machining finishes before finalizing the drawing.
