THE PROCESS / THE REASON

Long in proportion.
Exact in purpose.

When a part is slender, support near the cut matters.

Swiss-type machining is a useful route for small, detailed turned components. A typical guide-bushing setup supports the material close to the cutting area, helping limit deflection as features are machined.

We look at the complete geometry: diameters, shoulders, threads and any cross features. Then we align the setup, material and inspection with the part’s function.

SWISS MACHINING / ANSWERS

Before you
send the part.

What is Swiss-type machining?+

Swiss-type machining uses a sliding-headstock turning approach. In a typical guide-bushing setup, the material is supported close to the cutting area, helping control deflection on slender features. Your drawing determines the appropriate configuration and operations.

Which parts should I send for a Swiss machining review?+

Send small shafts, pins, sleeves, spacers and threaded components, especially where length, diameter and related features make support and process sequencing important. The team reviews the complete component rather than choosing a process from its name alone.

What is your listed Swiss machining range?+

Selected Swiss-type equipment has a published range up to Ø32 × 400 mm. Stock diameter, workholding, geometry, tooling and feature access determine the actual feasible part. Confirm the scope during quotation.

What tolerances can you achieve?+

The selected equipment listing gives ±0.002 mm as an equipment capability figure. Each feature tolerance is reviewed against geometry, material condition, setup, finish and measurement method. The drawing and accepted quotation define the requirements for your part.

Can one component combine turning with cross holes or milled features?+

Send the complete drawing with the cross holes, flats, slots and threads identified. WEKO reviews whether these features fit the proposed setup or need secondary operations; the quotation defines the route.

Can I order a prototype or a small batch?+

WEKO offers single-piece and low-MOQ CNC options. For each small turned component, we review whether Swiss-type or another CNC route offers a practical starting point for the requested quantity.

Which materials can I request?+

Discuss stainless steel, steel, aluminium, brass, copper or another specified material by exact grade and condition. Stock form, machinability, surface treatment and service requirements are part of the review.

How do you handle confidential drawings?+

Request an NDA before sharing sensitive project files. Discuss the file exchange and documentation requirements directly with WEKO.

What do you need for a quote?+

Send the drawing or model and revision, material grade, quantity, finish and required timing. Identify critical diameters, lengths, threads, geometric tolerances and inspection documentation. A part description can start the conversation if the drawing is not ready.

How long will production take?+

Expedited CNC options start from 3 business days. The confirmed schedule depends on the part, stock availability, quantity, setup, finishing and inspection scope and is stated in the quotation.
